Message from the Head of School

In 1930, John and Julie Forman opened their doors to a few bright, talented students who had not yet found true success in school. The Formans frequently led the way in educational research and innovative teaching strategies, quickly gaining a reputation as the premier school for students who learn differently. Over the years the school has partnered with individuals ranging from Samuel Orton to Albert Einstein to deliver the best educational program possible to its students. This focus continues today with a deep commitment by both faculty and staff at Forman to find and nurture the promise of every student.

The moment you step onto the campus you will be impressed by what Forman offers. We are a unique, college preparatory boarding school that realizes good teaching inspires a wide range of students. Because students learn differently, we teach differently. The educational experience at Forman includes a variety of learning approaches: intensive one-on-one work to improve areas of academic weakness, small group cooperative learning settings, round-table discussions, and hands-on experiential education. At every step, we focus on skill development that will take our students to college and beyond.

The Formans believed that learning did not end when you left the classroom. They had an equally strong commitment to character development and to other facets of the educational experience. Today you can continue to see their vision in action on our playing fields, in our musical and theatrical performances, and through dorm activities, school service, club meetings, social events, and numerous leadership opportunities. Forman students are active and involved. My hope is that every student leaving our school will play an active role in their community and in our society, enriching the lives of others.

It is my pleasure and honor to be the ninth head in Forman’s proud history. I could not have imagined a better school or a better group of students. If Forman has been a part of your past in some way, perhaps it’s time to reconnect with the school. Take the opportunity to see the exciting changes that have occurred and are continuing to occur on our campus. And if Forman is still very new to you, come for a visit and let us show you around. We think you’ll be impressed.
