Carpenter Learning Center

The Learning Center is the cornerstone of the academic experience. We offer a broad continuum of services. Our learning specialists work with students based on their individual needs. Students have the opportunity to improve their reading skills and master specific strategies that can then be applied to the classroom. As students develop more academic proficiency and confidence, their learning specialists become “coaches” helping them with time management, organization and executive functions.

The Learning Center employs multiple reading methodologies including Orton Gillingham, Wilson Reading and Lindamood Bell. Instruction is highly individualized. In the strategies classes, teachers use an eight stage mastery model which requires that a student show proficiency at one stage before moving on to the next stage. Students grow into independent learners able to clearly articulate the accommodations they need to achieve success at the post-secondary level.
