College Transition Center
College

The mission of The Forman School College Transition Center is to guide students through the college process and expose them to the possibilities that exist for them in life after Forman. For approximately 90% of our students that means a four year college while the remainder prefer a two year school, a gap year or, in a few cases, the working world. In every case, however, each student goes through the college process, beginning in the junior year, and, through a series of workshops, begins to sort out their individual needs and priorities. By the conclusion of senior year, each student has spent a considerable amount of time planning the next step.

Part of graduating from Forman is learning to be a strong self-advocate. This provides students with the confidence and self-esteem to articulate the support systems necessary to succeed in college. Many Forman students select colleges that provide note-takers, scribes and readers along with assistive technology.

The college admissions process can be a time of great anxiety for Forman students. The good news is that Forman students do have choices and more and more colleges are understanding of and responsive to the needs of students with learning differences.
