Planned Giving
“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” - Winston Churchill
What better legacy is there than a lasting expression of your appreciation to Forman? We want to continue to provide an educational experience unlike any other to young people who learn differently, an experience that is often transformational. To do this, we rely most on those who know us best. Please consider Forman in your will and estate planning.
The Copper Beech Society acknowledges living individuals who have made Forman a beneficiary and who have advised the school of that in writing. At present ,over twenty people have joined the ranks of those who wish to make a commitment to future generations of Forman students.
One example is Monroe B. “Monty” Scharff ’42, a remarkable link from The Forman School’s first decade to the present day. An alumni, past parent and longtime past trustee, his connection not only runs throughout the school’s history but is the profound bond of a student who has always cherished Forman’s ability to transform lives. Leaving a bequest to Forman may make it possible to give a larger gift than you feel you are able during your lifetime, costing you little or next to nothing now but benefiting the school significantly in the future. Your assets remain in your control during your lifetime and you can modify your bequest if circumstances change. And while we prefer unrestricted legacies to preserve the flexibility to use these funds where the need is greatest, you can direct your gift for a specific purpose like technology, athletics or the arts.
There are a variety of ways you can remember Forman including bequests in a will, unneeded life insurance policies, charitable remainder trusts and charitable lead trusts to name a few. As with any charitable giving arrangement, you should talk with your tax accountant, attorney or financial advisor before deciding upon which approach makes the most sense for you.
Should you decide to make Forman a beneficiary in your will, please identify the school as follows:
The Forman School, 12 Norfolk Road, Litchfield, CT 06759.
This is to ensure that your executor is absolutely clear as to your intent. And please let us know if Forman is a part of your planned giving so that we have the opportunity to thank you today for a gift that will mean so much to our students tomorrow. Simply fill out the attached form and send it to The Forman School, attention Maura P. Keenan.
