Head of School Mark B. Perkins announced to the school in late February that he plans to retire in June 2008. After 13 years of service, Mark and his wife, Shelli, plan to leave Forman.
“As the saying goes, timing is everything and we believe that the end of next year will be the best time for us to depart,” Perkins wrote in a recent letter sent out to the extended Forman community.
“Shelli and I are grateful for the privilege of being part of this wonderful community. This has been the most rewarding work of our careers,” he continued.
During his tenure as the eighth Head of School, Perkins has seen the landscape of Forman School change considerably, while still holding on to the value and character that initially drew him to the position. Over the last 12 years, two dormitories were built and two more were renovated. The Student Center, Athletic Center and the Olson Outdoor Education Center were completed. Most recently, the Henderson Administrative Building and Carpenter Academic Center were renovated to make the best use of space for students and faculty alike.
The Board of Trustees has already formed a search committee to begin the process of finding a replacement for Perkins.
Board of Trustees Chairman Peter Phillips ’65 writes, “I graduated from Forman during the years of John and Julie Forman, the School’s founders. They were leaders in helping students understand their individual learning styles and how to succeed in life. Through their stewardship, Mark and Shelli have made certain that the School continues to carry out the vision of John and Julie Forman…they will truly be missed.”
