Founded in 1930, the Forman School is a coeducational, independent college preparatory school whose purpose is to be the leading secondary school providing an education and a growth experience for 180 students in grades 9 – 12 with specific learning differences. What defines the Forman difference is its traditional boarding school setting, providing a residential curriculum as well as a host of athletic and extracurricular opportunities designed to bolster a student’s self-confidence, citizenship, and preparation for a mainstream American university.

Located in picturesque Litchfield, a small rural town in the hills of northwestern Connecticut, 30 miles from Hartford and 100 miles from Boston and New York, the school occupies 100 acres. This setting affords the Forman student opportunities to pursue nature-oriented interests, as well as cultural, sports and intellectual activities in the greater Hartford area.

The school’s program is a traditional college preparatory program designed for students with learning differences. In addition there is a learning center where each student receives individualized attention and instruction. Students master specific strategies that can be applied to a multiple of learning venues at Forman and in college.

Forman is a well-managed operation. There is a sophisticated administrative structure, and there are 75 full and part-time faculty, 50 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. Admissions are strong; the program, solid; and the physical plant, idyllic and beautifully maintained. The school has an operating budget of $9 million; the annual development proceeds total $1.4 million. The endowment presently stands at $3.5 million.
