From the Chairman of the Board: Field Narrowed Down to Three Candidates

October 15, 2007

Dear Forman Alumni,

This letter will update you on the progress we are making to hire a new Head of School at Forman.  Mark Perkins announced his retirement in February 2007 and since then a Search Committee, consisting of Trustees and Forman staff, has been diligently engaged in the search process.

In March we completed a competitive bidding process and engaged Gregory Floyd of Gregory Floyd and Associates to assist us in our search.  Gregory has been a Head of School and for the last 19 years has been exclusively recruiting heads for independent schools nationwide.

Gregory created a school profile and position description by meeting with Mark Perkins, members of his administrative team, faculty and staff, students, parents and alumni.  The Trustees reviewed the school profile at a June retreat and agreed to distribute the document to potential candidates.  The response to the open position being posted has been extremely encouraging.  Clearly, The Forman School is a highly sought-after school, thanks in large part to the great work of Mark Perkins and his staff over the past 13 years to rebuild and recommit Forman to its purpose of educating children with learning differences.

The Search Committee recently met with seven qualified candidates from the pool of those that applied.  The committee has since narrowed the field to three finalists, each of whom will be on the Forman campus for two days of interviews over the next few weeks.  Once we have identified the new Head of School we will share that information with you.

All in all, the Search Committee is extremely excited about our progress in finding a new Head of School for Forman and the positive prospect that this critical event will have in enhancing The Forman School for many years to come.

Sincerely,

Peter L. Phillips ’65
Chairman, Board of Trustees
