NEW LEBANON, N.Y. - The Forman boys basketball team held off host Darrow in the second half Saturday to capture the Hudson Valley Athletic League championship. The Lions outscored Darrow 29-21 in the first half, a margin the host school couldn't overcome despite a 30-25 scoring advantage in the second half.
Davis Delanty sealed the win with a 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining. The basket put Forman up by six points, and a last-second 3-pointer from Darrow only cut the final margin to three points.
"It's enormous," Forman coach Leland McKenna said. "The kids are thrilled. We had to play our best basketball to beat them."
The loss was Darrow's first to a Hudson Valley Athletic League team this season.
Alec Giusti aced the Lions with 18 points and 25 rebounds. Tom Hemans added 10 points and seven rebounds while Corey Gelbstein contributed with 10 points.
Shamal Hackle scored a game-high 26 points to pace Darrow, while Andy Pemberton added 10 points. Forman improved to 12-7 overall while Darrow fell to 17-2.
