Sophomore Zeb Hastings Awarded Eagle Scout Honor

Benjamin Zeb Hastings, of Troop 320 was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout in a Court of Honor held on Sunday, January 6, 2008 at Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church, Mountain Brook Alabama.

Zeb is a sophomore at Forman School where he enjoys rock climbing and basketball.  He is the son of Chris and Idie Hastings of Mountain Brook, Alabama.

Zeb has earned 21 merit badges required for the rank of Eagle Scout.  He has been awarded the Arrow of Light award and also attended Philmont, a high adventure base in New Mexico where he learned the importance of preparedness, following instructions, and helping others in need.  Zeb participated in the Five Star Plantation Camp in 2005 where he was awarded first place in Blackpowder, Pistol, and Shotgun and he has traveled with the Scouts on a sailing trip to the Bahamas.

For his Eagle Scout project, Zeb prepared and laid a concrete slab at Mountain Brook Elementary School where he assembled and installed four picnic tables, 8 benches, and 2 trash receptacles.  He also installed a cement path leading to the picnic area that is compliant with the American Disability Act.  He and several volunteers spent a total of 294 hours working on this project.
