The Forman Difference

Many schools offer college preparatory programs in supportive and caring environments for students with learning differences. In approach, these programs range from intensive one-on-one tutoring, to academic remediation, to adjunct study skills or learning lab programs. Most also rely on a preferred learning strategy like Orton-Gillingham or Schools Attuned. In searching for the right school, prospective students and parents can identify differences in schools related to size, costs and extracurricular activities. It's often more difficult, however, to understand what distinguishes the learning program and educational experience and therefore, why one school may be a better “fit” than another. What then is the Forman difference?
 
First and foremost, we get it! We understand that students learn differently and we are fully dedicated to their academic success. Our commitment to putting validated research into practice sets Forman apart. All Forman teachers are trained in learning strategies and our learning specialists employ a variety of proven tools and techniques tailored to student needs. Teachers know their students, their strengths and affinities and their learning challenges. As a result, a Forman education transforms: students who feel they have limited options now aspire to new possibilities.
 
Second, a Forman education extends to all aspects of a student’s development. We encourage students to find opportunities for personal growth and success in multiple venues, not just academics. We understand that the social climate of a school can make a huge difference in a student’s educational experience. We stress character development so that students learn to make thoughtful, valued based decisions in life. And, we hold students accountable for their actions.
Third, Forman provides a rigorous college preparatory curriculum under the guidance of experts in their disciplines. We understand, value and nurture a student’s preferred learning style and provide the student with the skills and strategies to succeed in the classroom. State-of-the-art assistive technology supports the learning process and encourages students to extend themselves. Small classes allow Forman faculty to truly connect with students, often leading to greater intellectual curiosity and risk-taking. Students become inspired to try new things, to push themselves a bit harder and to set and achieve personal goals.

Our transitional curriculum for seniors prepares students to take that next step with confidence. Our students graduate as articulate self-advocates, resourceful and empowered.
