Ten Great Reasons to Choose Forman

1. Our full-time focus is on students who learn differently. We are a school devoted solely to educating young men and women with learning differences. This is not a supplemental part of our program with an additional charge.

2. We prepare our graduates for the challenge of college and beyond. Our academic program is comprehensive and rigorous. We view students as lifelong learners and prepare them for lifetime experiences. Virtually all our students go on to college.

3. Our entire faculty is trained in the “All Kinds of Minds” approach to learning. Our faculty has undergone intensive training in the Schools Attuned program run by the All Kinds of Minds Institute under the direction of Dr. Mel Levine. This highly acclaimed program has been featured in the national media as an innovative and proven methodology to understand, identify and address learning differences.

4. We provide and encourage growth opportunities beyond the classroom. We offer a variety of experiential and hands-on learning opportunities so that students have multiple settings in which to learn and grow. As a result, many of our students become leaders for the first time in their lives.

5. We are a close knit and caring community. Our students feel safe, respected and at home. Forman becomes a second family for our students. We are a community where relationships really matter and where we watch out for and support each other.

6. Our students feel like they belong, some for the first time. Many of our students indicate that they never really “fit” in their prior academic environment. At Forman, they are like everyone else…students with unique talents now given the opportunity to shine.

7. We emphasize character development as much as we do learning. We champion high expectations for our students, challenging them to reach beyond their grasp. We stress values of citizenship, responsibility, perseverance and respect. We believe that preparation for life extends beyond the classroom.

8. We develop student-specific learning strategies. Our learning strategists work with each student to identify and implement a learning approach that best affords him or her opportunity to succeed. We do not rely on tutorial techniques but rather design strategies that encourage our students to function as successful independent learners.

9. Our students learn to believe in and become advocates for themselves. Through success, our students develop self-esteem and self-worth, recognizing their own merit and feeling confident about their future. We strongly foster self-advocacy skills so that students can understand and manage their specific learning challenges once they leave Forman.

10. We reside on a beautiful campus in one of New England’s most picturesque towns. Forman is located on 100 acres in Litchfield, a small town in the northwest hills of Connecticut but very accessible to major airports and highways. The rural countryside allows our students opportunities to participate in a number of outdoor and extracurricular activities throughout the school year.
