"There's Something Wrong with Katie" is Forman Makes a Movie's third feature, and it's a significant step up in scope and professional quality. Students and faculty packed the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater at 7:00pm on Saturday, May 12 to watch the premiere together.

Under lovely blue skies and sunshine, Forman School's annual Strawberry Festival went off without a hitch. On Monday, May 14 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, students and faculty lingered together over food, snow cones, and many fun activities.

Each local chapter of The National Honor Society (NHS) is required to perform regular community service. Thanks to Jason Epstein '18, Forman School does a monthly act of service that truly enriches the local community and brings a smile to the face of a young child on his or her birthday.

On Monday, May 7, Head of School Adam K. Man announced the latest list of students to achieve the rights and privileges accorded to a John Forman Scholar, a list notably longer than usual.

After listening to Sandra Uwiringiyimana speak about her difficult life and times in the Congo at one of Forman School's cultural performance series events, Odessa Slauson '19 saw a chance to make a difference. "I'm aware that my life has unusual privileges," says Odessa. "This event reminded me that others are not so fortunate. I wanted to help."

The Green Key Society gives recognition to the students who perform services beyond the call of duty to Forman School. Green Key members are those generally pleasant and cheerful students who volunteer to help and who act in a manner befitting Forman School.

Twenty-five years ago, Wendy Welshans started the Rainforest Program at Forman School as a way to show students the positive effects that humans can have on the environment.

To kick off Spring Parents' Weekend, parents, faculty, and administration gathered in the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater to listen to noted author and education expert David Flink, the Founder and Chief Empowerment Officer of Eye to Eye, the only national mentoring program for and by people with LD/ADHD. Flink was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD when he was nine.

After dinner on Wednesday in the Peirce Dining Hall, Forman robotics wizardry was on display. Three robots battled it out by scrambling to place cones on top of cones for two points and tried for extra points by placing the cones in certain zones on the mat. Robotics teacher Wendy Welshans was the master of ceremonies. Head of school Adam Man ran the clock. And faculty members Patrick McCarthy and Adam Bendon served as referees.

Forman inducted 16 new members into its chapter of the National Honor Society on Monday. As current student and faculty members of the NHS filed into the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater, music teacher Jerrod Cattey (piano) and Stella Brooks '18 (flute) played Brooks' own composition "Vols de Erudites"

The Forman School's Model United Nations team went to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from Thursday April 19 to Sunday April 22. According to history teacher and team leader Erika Prince and team veterans, the conference at Cornell was the best of the year because of the creativity on display in the creation of the various committees offered.

The morning of April 21 brought a bright and sunny day to Litchfield and the weather added to the success of Forman School's Spring Open House. Faculty and students were fully engaged in talking to prospective families and students, energetically sharing their enthusiasm for the school's offerings for both the academic year and summer programs, all tailored for students who learn differently.

While most of the junior class at the Forman School took their ACTs on Saturday April 14, the freshman and sophomore classes were working just as hard over at the White Memorial Conservation Center in Litchfield. Toiling in several faculty-led groups of 10-15 kids each, students helped restore habitats that will benefit the local animal population.

The Forman School's ongoing speaker series continued on Tuesday, April 17 when American Paralympic sit-skier and wheelchair track athlete Chris Waddell addressed students and faculty in the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater.

Project Based Learning is one of the hallmarks of Forman School and the latest efforts were on display on Friday, April 13 in the Student Center. Many students and faculty flowed through to enjoy the work, ask questions, and have a chocolate chip cookie or two.

On the night of April 8, the ongoing cultural performance series at Forman School presented the Neo-Futurists, a New York city-based experimental theater group founded in 1988.

On February 22 and 23, the stage of the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater transformed into the land of Duloc for a wonderful evening of comedy and singing as the theater department mounted an exciting and wildly entertaining production of "Shrek: The Musical." A wonderful story of acceptance and the idea of embracing our differences, "Shrek" entertained while delivering a positive message.

Courtney Schullery '18 was named New England All-Star for her high-level play at both shooting and point guard. The All-Star teams are chosen by the New England Preparatory School Girls Basketball Coaches Association. Schullery made the Class D/E West team and she will play against the Class D/E East team on Sunday, March 4 at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, MA.

On Monday February 19th, while enjoying a dinner of roast beef and salmon, the Forman School community gathered to salute the men's and women's winter sports teams. Athletic director Scott McCarty '76 called the evening to order and reminded all in attendance that win and losses are important, but they are not the only way to measure the success of an athletic program. If the participating students are improving at their sports and having fun, then the program is on the right track.

In her weekly talk during Monday assemblies, Forman School psychologist Dr. Barbara Tarkin recently shared some research and advice on the merits of remembering to "unplug" from our cell phones and tablets. When people put their devices away, they report less jealousy, anxiety, and depression. "It's important for us to develop face-to-face conversational skills," said Dr. Tarkin. "We need to really be with each other in real time." Many people feel that being connected will make them feel less alone, but often that connection causes you to be alone in a room full of people because you're not relating to your friends and family while you constantly check your digital profile(s). Social media can actually prevent us from being truly social.

On the night of January 26, the Student Center was buzzing with activity. The school's innovative Project-Based Learning initiative was on display, showing visitors the latest updates on various student-led projects. While also a chance to demonstrate current ideas being worked out, the night is also a form of recruitment as students may see something they like and perhaps are inspired to begin a project of their own.

On Sunday, January 21, students and faculty were treated to the music of Bridgeport-based Caravan of Thieves. Their a gypsy-tinged string band whose compositions featured beautifully blended vocal harmonies, virtuosic improvisation, and stage antics that captured the attention of their audience.

With student ambassadors at the ready, and the grounds of campus looking their best, Forman School welcomed potential students and their families on the morning of Monday, January 15 for Winter 2018 Open House. With a light snow falling, visitors from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Florida came to Litchfield to see firsthand what Forman can offer their children.

On Sunday, December 10, photojournalist Alison Wright delivered an autobiographical lecture featuring highlights from her career documenting the human condition all over the world. Wright's presentation took place in the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater and was the last event in 2017 of the new regular series of creative showcases on campus.

Community service is an important part of student life at Forman School. Faculty and administrators regularly supervise activities that allow students to help people in need. In addition to regular and consistent ways to give back to our community, sometimes a particular need will appear and Forman will rise to the occasion.

On the evening of Sunday, December 3, guitarist Kaki King performed for students at Forman School as part of an ongoing series of performances to enhance the arts on campus at the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater.
