There’s a live crime scene on campus at Forman School! But don’t worry; it’s all part of the curriculum.
Forensics Teacher Shawn Mullen has fine-tuned the art (and of course the science) of creating a mock crime scene in the Science Center, complete with dummies, fake blood stains, and props. This year, he had some help from Morgan Yanni ’19, who took care of the special effects makeup on the “victims.”
In this interactive lesson, students search the room, collect evidence, lift fingerprints, and measure specific distances. After processing the crime scene, they are required to create a sketch of what they saw and write a reconstruction of events with photos and fingerprints to match lab samples.
One could say lessons like this mirror our students: they are creative, extraordinary, and far from typical. Here, learners become confident scientists and explorers. Today, our students are experts surveying a crime scene. It’s just another day at Forman.
