School spirit has been at an all-time high for the last few weeks, with Dorm Wars sweeping the campus. This all-school event is designed and led by dorm prefects.
“The first annual Dorm Wars competition was a success,” said Director of Student Leadership Kyle Halloran ’05. “Our goal was to build excitement through morning meeting games that could earn points for each dorm.” These “Minute to Win-It” games included “Face the Cookie” and “Movin’ on Up,” which involved moving a cookie from forehead to mouth without the use of hands, and stacking 40 Solo cups until the first cup returns to the bottom. Each dorm representative that completed the challenge within the allotted time was awarded points.
The main event was a dodgeball tournament on Sunday, January 29 in Risley Gymnasium. Student-leaders had picked out costumes and props for dorm themes such as: cats, an old-school tennis team, military, and superheroes. “Dorms were paired up for the tournament with points awarded to the top five teams, best dressed dorm, and most spirited dorm,” Halloran added.
The top overall winners were Hamilton, Morris, Lewis, and Childress.
