Sean Padgett of Forman School has been named the Assistant Wrestling Coach of the Year in all of New England. He was honored at Hyde School in Bath, ME on Friday, February 17 by the New England Independent School Wrestling Association (NEISWA).
Padgett has worked with the Forman wrestling team for the past four years, but he has a long history in grappling. “My background is less in wrestling and more in the world of martial arts (Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, specifically), which gives me a different perspective on the basic skill sets of wrestling,” he says. “Prior to coaching wrestling at Forman, I coached and lead the Integrated Martial Arts Club at Dartmouth College for five years.” Padgett adds, “I am still somewhat in awe that I am being honored, especially given the incredible range of coaching talent across New England.”
But Head Coach Josh Sands isn’t surprised. “Sean has been selected for his dedication, not only to our team, but also for his dedication to New England Wrestling. He has served as the New England Independent School Wrestling Association (NEISWA) Secretary-Treasurer for the last two seasons,” he explains. “Sean is devoted to his team, and willing to do the big and small tasks that help a program run smoothly. His selflessness and commitment to Forman Wrestling have made a huge impact on our team and program.”
Now back on campus after receiving this accolade, Padgett is feeling thankful. “I am especially grateful to my coaches, John Widman and Steve Whittier for sharing their knowledge with me,” he says, adding that he is also thankful for Coach Sands, Athletic Director Scott McCarty ’76, Assistant Head of School for Operations and Enrollment Mike Kowalchick, and Head of School Adam Man, “for giving me the opportunity to work with our amazing Forman students. And, of course, none of this would be possible without the constant encouragement, support, and understanding if my wife, Charissa.”
Congratulations, Mr. Padgett, on the well-deserved recognition!
