L-R: Taylor McNair '18, Dani Oddo '18, Courtney Schullery '18
Fresh off a Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) championship win of 36-21 versus Christian Heritage School, three athletes on Forman School’s Girls Varsity Basketball team were named all-stars for the 2016-’17 winter season. Congratulations to Taylor McNair ’17 and Dani Oddo ’18, who were selected as First Team HVAL and New England All-Stars, and Courtney Schullery ’18, who was chosen as a Second Team HVAL All-Star.
As captain of the Forman team, McNair was named Athlete of the week in December. She started off strong in the season opening victory against The Gunnery with 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals, and has continued to show her athleticism and commitment. Head Coach Jon Davis says, “Taylor is a very athletic wing who attacks defenses and uses her quickness to get to the hoop. She was the captain of the team this year and has set high expectations for herself and her teammates. She has a nonstop motor and plays with a high level of intensity at all times. Taylor led the team in scoring this year and finished with averages of 15.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.5 steals per game.”
In her two years on the team, Dani Oddo ’18 has been named Athlete of the Week twice. Known for “her strong defensive play and clutch free-throw shooting,” she has averaged 12.6 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals per game this season. “Dani is a strong athlete who understands the game of basketball and plays the point guard position very efficiently. She has strong ball handling and passing skills, and is arguably the best point guard in the league,” Davis says. “She is constantly pushing herself to improve and has helped create a culture that encourages her teammates to work on their games during their free time.”
Schullery is a hard-working athlete whose efforts have ensured the team’s overall success. Director of Athletics Scott McCarty ’76 says, “Courtney has a passion for athletics. She gives her all to make her team better. She’s not a quitter, she’s a great team player, and she’s very coachable.” Davis adds, “Courtney is an extremely motivated athlete who takes her work on the court seriously. She was the team's third-leading scorer and always found ways to do the little things that helped us win. Whenever we needed a key defensive stop or a crucial offensive play, Courtney was often the one making it happen. She is the ultimate team player and was willing to switch her offensive position late in the season which helped fuel the team's postseason run to the championship.”
McNair and Oddo will play in the New England All-Star game Sunday, March 5 at Loomis Chaffee School at 2:00pm.
