Week two of Forman Summer 2017 has been action-packed. The theme this week is "Assist Yourself," so students have explored the different ways they can help themselves reach their goals and be successful in and out of school. Teachers introduced a variety of assistive strategies such as setting phone reminders, spell check, and choosing to sit away from friends who might be a distraction during dorm meetings.
This week, in the afternoons, students selected what they wanted to do. High ropes, Steve Squad, basketball, soccer, cooking, swimming, hiking, jewelry making, art, boatbuilding, horseback riding, golf, music, and tennis were some of the choices. Next week we will add video, graphic art and others.
On Monday evening, students watched a series of videos that address the opportunity for brain growth and personal improvement. Some of the links include:
On Tuesday evening, students learned about growth mindset vs. fixed mindset and engaged in activities to reinforce and emphasize the importance of the word, "yet." Wednesday, we celebrated a beautiful summer evening in New England with a large game of capture the flag down on the lower fields and a river walk for some. Thursday, summer reading was the activity and Friday, students can choose to watch The Lego Movie, October Sky, or continue their reading.
