Forman School Athletic Director and Boys Varsity Soccer Head Coach Scott McCarty '76 is among the recipients of the first annual High School Coach of Significance Award given by United Soccer Coaches, a national organization founded in 1941 to support, develop, and advance the efforts of soccer coaches in the United States.
"I don't usually care much for awards," said McCarty. "But it is nice to have what we do at Forman recognized this way. We always coach and teach the whole student, not just the athlete. There is nothing more gratifying than seeing former students who take the time to tell me that I made a difference in their lives, on and off the field. And that's true of all my colleagues at Forman."
McCarty's natural shyness caused him to wonder if the award was actually meant for him. "I Googled Scott McCarty in Connecticut and a lot of names came up," said McCarty. "There were so many that I called them back and said "Are you sure you have the right Scott McCarty? They said they did."
Scotty didn't have to Google his name when he got the call that he had won this honor. All he had to do was run it by anyone who has ever seen him work with Forman students. There aren't enough awards in the world for Scotty McCarty.
Congratulations! They got the right guy.
