On Sunday, January 21, students and faculty were treated to the music of Bridgeport-based Caravan of Thieves. Their a gypsy-tinged string band whose compositions featured beautifully blended vocal harmonies, virtuosic improvisation, and stage antics that captured the attention of their audience.
Music students had the opportunity to engage with the band in an afternoon masterclass. The band members and Forman students improvised a piece of music together and jammed on Amy Winehouse's version of "Valerie" and Vance Joy's "Riptide." Meredith Sherburne '19 enjoyed playing on the group's drum set comprised of jugs, springs, and pans. The band members were inspired by the creativity and talent of Forman students and clearly enjoyed their time with them.
Highlights of the 8pm show included the group's arrangement of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that led to an all-school sing-along, and their finale, a 10-minute disco medley that had a number of students dancing on the front of the stage.
Guitarist, Fuzz, was surprised and excited at the number of students who stayed after the concert to express their gratitude and purchase the band's 2015 vinyl release, Kiss Kiss.
Emme Wooley '20 left the Jake Cloobeck '16 Theater with a beaming smile and described the performance as "amazing and inspirational."
