After listening to Sandra Uwiringiyimana speak about her difficult life and times in the Congo at one of Forman School's cultural performance series events, Odessa Slauson '19 saw a chance to make a difference. "I'm aware that my life has unusual privileges," says Odessa. "This event reminded me that others are not so fortunate. I wanted to help."
With a little help from her friends, Odessa put together a fundraiser for the Jimbere Fund, which supports women in the Congo to better their lives and the world around them.
So, on Sunday, May 5, Forman hosted a Dodgeball tournament in the gym at 7:00pm with team entry fees going to the Jimbere Fund.
With Mr. Walsh and Mr. Clancy serving as referees, several teams battled it out. Those in attendance agreed that Tom Troy '18, Julian Checco '19 and Addie Lamond '21 played very well. All three worked hard, diving and dodging, and kept the crowd involved.
The faculty team won the overall tournament but all of the student teams played well and demonstrated a lot of Forman School spirit by banding together to raise nearly $600 for women in need in the Congo.
