Led by captains Mazwe Cuba '18 and David Kilburn '19, Forman School's Boys' Varsity Tennis Team concluded their season as runners up in the 2018 HVAL Championship.
After a 7-5 season that earned them third place in the HVAL league standings, the Lions entered tournament play. The format was four singles matches and three doubles, with each match worth one point. To win and advance, a team must score at least four of the seven available points.
After defeating Chase Collegiate in the quarterfinals of the HVALS, Forman defeated Wooster in the semi-finals after losing to them twice in the regular season. After Mazwe and Zach Lopez won their singles matches, the overall score was 2-2. In the doubles matches, Mazwe and Kilburn won as did Jake Schinasi '19 and Travis Zuckerman '20 and Forman moved on by a match score of 4-3.
The championship match against Wooster would be a tall order for Forman as Wooster was the only team in the league that Forman did not beat in the regular season. Zach Lopez won his singles match and Mazwe and Kilburn won their doubles but it wasn't enough as Wooster won the championship 5-2.
"We had a good season," said head coach Annie Crawford. "The championship was an incredible battle and hard fought on both sides. We really appreciate the sportsmanship and skill of our players and all of our opponents."
