The 22nd session of the Brown University Simulation of the United Nations took place over the weekend of Friday, November 9 to Sunday, November 11. Forman's delegation of thirteen veterans and newcomers alike arrived in Providence late Friday afternoon in time for dinner before attending opening ceremonies on Brown's campus.
Over the three days, our students served on both traditional UN committees like the High Commission for Refugees, the Economic and Social Council, and the Environmental Assembly, as well as specialized and historical committees. Bruno Cameselle '20, who took on the role of Henry Holland, 3rd Duke of Exeter for the War of the Roses committee, was called into a crisis committee session Saturday night. Sam Seo '20, acting as Isabel Urcuyo de Somoza for the 1963 Nicaraguan Revolution committee, boasted of being voted "most likely to abuse their power" at the final committee meeting. This was Aidan Donovan's '22 first conference as a Forman student, but he came in with Model UN experience from his previous school.
The second and final conference for the year will be held at Yale on January 18-21, 2019.
