Students Attend Model UN
Posted 01/25/2019 11:29AM

The Model UN Delegation from Forman had a successful trip to the 45th Yale Model United Nations Conference from January 17-20. After arriving in New Haven on Thursday afternoon, students joined nearly 2,000 other participants from around the world for the Opening Ceremony before attending their first committee meeting that lasted well into the night.

On Friday, students participated in Yale Day, attending admissions talks, hearing lectures from Yale professors, and watching performances from some of the university's most talented and unique groups. Committee offerings for this year's YMUN did not disappoint.

First time participant, Landon Phipps '22, learned the ropes in the UNHCR Committee specifically for new delegates. Robert Goodwin '20 represented Nigeria in the Social, Humanitarian, and Culture Committee's discussion of obesity and ebola, and Nick Campos '20 spoke for Vietnam on the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. Students attended a total of seven committee meetings over the four days.

YMUN was Forman's second and final Model UN conference for the year. Students are looking forward to our return to Providence next fall.
