Forman School will officially join a new football league in the fall. The Gunnery, Millbrook School, and Pomfret School will also be part of the league, which will be named next month. Games will include eight players on the field for each team as opposed to the current 11 players in the Hudson Valley Athletic League.
“After 14 years as part of HVAL, we are excited for this opportunity to play schools who are in our district and within a closer distance to us,” Forman Athletic Director Scott McCarty ‘76 says. “Football numbers in many schools have dropped over the past five or six years, and we decided that this new league will give students an opportunity to continue football in smaller numbers.”
With six games per season, McCarty describes eight-player football as “a different game; it’s faster, encompasses more throwing, a lot more speed, and high scoring with a narrower field.” This new league will allow more students to have playing time in both scrimmages and games. Additionally, competing with familiar and local schools will reduce travel and missed class time due to athletic commitments.
