Kyle Halloran ’05 has been in the “Forman family” for his entire life. In addition to being an alumnus, his mother, Director of Counseling Charlene Halloran, has worked at the School for over 30 years. “I was born here, I went to school here, I teach here, and I am now raising a family here,” he says. “I've seen this School develop over the years and have been surrounded by Forman's educational process. There is nothing else like this School out there, and I feel very fortunate to be a part of this community.”

Now in his sixth year at Forman, Halloran teaches Thinking and Writing as well as History and Social Sciences. Teaching primarily upperclassmen, he enjoys seeing what he calls “the final phase” of academic transformation. “Being able to show a student their recent papers and compare them to their earlier work in the year provides a really nice opportunity to let that student take pride in their accomplishments and progress,” he explains. As a former student at Forman, Halloran has a deep understanding of the School’s educational process and focus on individualized instruction. “Teaching has to be unique to the student. I cannot say I teach any one style to the entire class,” he says. “While I have a basic outline for the year, each student gets different feedback and strategies. My conversations with each student are what helps me (and them) gain the most from that particular class.”

One popular project that Halloran created for his Psychology class is called, "Child Show Analysis." In this unit, students get the opportunity to rewatch a favorite childhood television show and analyze it from a psychological perspective. “Whether they are diagnosing characters or discussing potential outcomes resulting from viewing the show, the students can take what they've learned from the text and apply it to a real world setting,” he says.

Outside of his roles as dorm parent, teacher, and Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach, Halloran is a triathlete. He has won the Sandy Beach Triathlon twice (and set a new course record), and he believes that lessons from athletics such as “gaining confidence” translate directly to the classroom. Recently featured in Triathlete Magazine, he believes the sport has played a vital role in developing the person he is today. Halloran’s schedule is full between helping students, family time, and triathlon training, but he says, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
