Forman School participated in a robotics competition for the first time ever on Saturday, February 13 along with 30 other teams at the University of New Haven. In the School’s first year with a Robotics Program, the Forman Lions took home the Sportsmanship Award from the CTEEA Regional Vex Qualifier. Robotics Coach Wendy Welshans and her team presented the award to Head of School Adam K. Man on Tuesday, February 15.

Two of Forman’s robots competed in the event, aptly named #1930A and #1930B for the year the School was founded. Although team B completed the event with a 2-4-0 record in 24th place and team A ended with a 1-5-0 record in 19th place, Forman was honored for respectful and ethical behavior, as well as camaraderie with other schools. Of nine awards given out, Forman was recognized among top competitors such as Choate Rosemary Hall and Notre Dame High School.

Nicole Linse ’16 is part of team #1930B and only began building robots this academic year. “I had some building experience and I like programming, but I had a lot to learn about robotics,” she says. “We worked together and people with different skills taught each other.” Of the students’ dedication to the program, Welshans adds, “They are so engaged. Many times I can’t get them to leave for lunch.”
