Forman School’s Revisit Day had a great turnout on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, even with a fresh coat of spring snow on the ground. The Johnson Art Center was packed with families and accepted students, who began the day with a welcome from Director of Admissions Aline Rossiter.
Guests returned to campus to get a firsthand sense of the Forman experience. Parents and students split into respective groups to tour the campus and visit classes. Students were able to attend classes in English, Conceptual Physics, Video and Film, and Chemistry. Forman’s excellent, interactive teachers involved the students in labs, experiments, poetry readings, and music video editing. Meanwhile, parents joined discussions on Academics and College Counseling with Director of Studies Jamie Dwan and Director of College Counseling Meredith Davis. Parents also heard from Head of School Adam K. Man about the “State of the School.”
Tasty refreshments, coffee, and tea were served throughout the day and families enjoyed a delicious lunch in Peirce Dining Hall. Following mealtime, the Johnson Art Center was buzzing with activity at the Academic and Student Life Fair. Similar to registration, visitors were able to learn about all of Forman’s programs such as Academics, Athletics, Community Service, the Ingenuity Program, Learning Strategies, Model United Nations, the Rainforest Project, Student Life, the Summer Program, Visual and Performing Arts, Boatbuilding, and more. Some visiting students chose to participate in athletic practices in the afternoon as well.
In addition to watching a short video featuring four current Forman students discussing “The Forman Difference” and life at the School, guests were able to see students in action doing what they do best. Student performances included an original classical composition from Will Dietrich ’16, a vocal ensemble rendition of “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra, and a full set from Forman’s rock group.
Next, The Taft School Dean of Academic Affairs and Forman parent Jon Willson P’17 led an engaging Parent Perspective session from both the viewpoint of a parent and an independent school educator. Senior Alivia Derr ’16 then gave a touching speech chronicling her journey through other schools and finally to Forman, where her life as well as her confidence were completely transformed.
The positive and exciting atmosphere was tangible at Revisit Day 2016. Forman is thrilled to welcome a very capable and diverse group of new students in September.
Head of School Adam Man closed the day by thanking guests and sending well wishes for next academic year. “We’re so glad you’re here. We really hope we see you in the fall; we look forward to it,” he said.
