Scores of parents gathered at Forman School for a beautiful Spring Parents’ Weekend on April 21-23, 2016. Campus was buzzing with excitement and happy faces, and the spring weather was in bloom, providing a perfect setting for a jam-packed weekend of exciting events.

Beyond the many parent-teacher conferences throughout the weekend, parents enjoyed enlightening educational sessions as well, starting with a College Counseling Information Session for parents of juniors on Thursday. There, guests had a luncheon and panel discussion with Director of College Counseling Meredith Davis, School Psychologist Dr. Kelli Miller, David Buckley ’13, Davis Ebbert ’16, and Lasell College Dean of Undergraduate Admission James Tweed. Parents were also treated to a talk from bestselling author and parenting expert Dr. Madeline Levine on “Raising Healthy Kids in an Unsettled World.” On Friday, parents learned “How to Structure a Successful Summer” with Assistant Head of School for Internal Affairs Mike Kowalchick and Director of Student Life Terry Walsh. Additionally, they heard from Director of Studies Jamie Dwan about “Designing Your Child’s Curriculum.” Student videos and film education techniques were shared by Arts Teacher Sean Kelly on Saturday, and everyone was delighted by the trailer from the “Forman Makes a Movie” Winterim.

Other activities from the weekend included a dessert reception featuring a student art exhibit and musical performances, an Ingenuity Program exhibition of student work, and a Winterim showcase, where students presented their trips to parents, faculty, and staff. On the final day, parents split into classes for Parent Association meetings, the Forman Boatworks group raffled off a student-made canoe, and a Passover Seder. Head of School Adam K. Man closed the weekend with a wonderful announcement: Forman will be breaking ground shortly on a brand new “Fab Lab” for Ingenuity projects, Robotics, 3D prototyping and more. This building will be attached to the Olson Center (which is currently home to the Boatbuilding program) and will be completed by fall 2016. Planning and Zoning as well as the Forman Board of Trustees have also approved a state-of-the-art Visual and Performing Arts Center, which will house a 300-seat theater, dressing rooms, dance studio, jewelry making center, ceramics and pottery studio, and more. This project will start in the fall and will be completed in about one year from that point.

Spirits were high at the athletic contests Saturday, and six of the nine teams won their games! Families cheered on the Lions on the fields and savored delicious hamburgers and hot dogs at the Hospitality Tent.

Thank you to all of our fantastic Forman families for making Spring Parents’ Weekend so special.
