US Lacrosse has named Forman School’s Jackson Parker ’16 as a High School Academic All-American! He is the first ever Academic All-American for Lacrosse at Forman, and is followed by three US High School Lacrosse All-Americans at Forman in recent years: Patrick Charles ’13, Connor Hall ’15, and Thomas Nelson ’16. Parker was also announced as the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award at Forman’s Spring 2016 Athletic Awards.
“Jackson has been a pleasure to have in the Forman Lacrosse program. He has gone from a reserve midfielder in his ninth grade year to an all-star and top player in Western New England as a senior,” Head Lacrosse Coach Mike Kowalchick says. “Jackson was a key cog for us in his senior campaign and rarely came off the field playing midfield, attack, taking face-offs, and leading on our man down unit on defense. Of all of Jackson's accomplishments the most impressive is how positive an ambassador he has been for our younger players and the sport of Lacrosse in Northwest Connecticut. He is an outstanding player, but an ever better human being.”
To be eligible for this award, a junior or senior must be nominated by a coach, according to the US Lacrosse guidelines. Additionally, he must be a significant contributor to his team and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.7 out of 4.0. Service to the school community also plays an important role in the decision process. Academic All-Americans are voted on by the entire division as well as US Lacrosse.
Parker will graduate this weekend, and plans to attend Texas Christian University in the fall. “It seems like yesterday that I met a young boy from Austin, Texas with a strong work ethic and a passion for Lacrosse and academics,” Kowalchick remembers. “He came to Forman and honed his skills both in the classroom and on the playing fields. His work in the Ingenuity Program and Programming are noteworthy. On the field, he has grown into one of the top midfielders in our league and division. Jackson is one of the finest young men I have coached at Forman. His accomplishments as a student-athlete are what others aspire to and his character and determination are at the core of what he has become. I am proud to call him an ambassador for Forman and our Lacrosse program. I could not think of a more appropriate choice for Academic All-American by US Lacrosse.”
