As the 2016 Paralympic Games begin on September 7 in Rio de Janeiro, a member of the Forman School community will grace the waters of Brazil. Laura Goodkind ’04 recently secured a place on the United States rowing team.
Goodkind will row alongside Helman Roman in the trunk and arms mixed double sculls event. In April, the pair won the Non-Qualified Paralympic Trials in New Jersey and then went on to represent the U.S. at the Final Paralympic Qualification Regatta in Italy, placing third behind Russia, who was recently disqualified from competition. “The fact that we have this spot now is incredible. I’m really stoked and I’m just trying to get used to idea,” she says.
The Forman alumna calls the opportunity “surreal” and “mind blowing.” She is also thankful. "Incredibly grateful to have the opportunity to represent the Stars and Stripes in the Southern Hemisphere,” she says. “Thank you to the dozen or so coaches I am lucky to have stateside, and the national and international support from the rest!”Keep up with the latest in the Paralympic Games here and read the full article here.
