After dinner on Wednesday in the Peirce Dining Hall, Forman robotics wizardry was on display. Three robots battled it out by scrambling to place cones on top of cones for two points and tried for extra points by placing the cones in certain zones on the mat. Robotics teacher Wendy Welshans was the master of ceremonies. Head of school Adam Man ran the clock. And faculty members Patrick McCarthy and Adam Bendon served as referees.

On the night of January 26, the Student Center was buzzing with activity. The school's innovative Project-Based Learning initiative was on display, showing visitors the latest updates on various student-led projects. While also a chance to demonstrate current ideas being worked out, the night is also a form of recruitment as students may see something they like and perhaps are inspired to begin a project of their own.

The decision of where to attend high school is an important one. And for the students who were accepted at Forman School for the 2017-'18 year, Revisit Day was the perfect opportunity to envision themselves as members of the community. Through gray skies and light drizzle all day, it felt like the sun was shining for the new Lions, who were beaming with excitement about their new school.

Forman Robotics has seen great success recently, but our current students aren't the only members of the community with an affinity for this 21st century pursuit. Max Bales '14 says building robots is something he "dabbles in from time to time." What he considers to be a hobby, however, others like ABC, call a gift. When the television network revived the early-2000s Comedy Central show, Battlebots, Max and a group of like-minded friends and family members were some of the first to be invited to participate as a team.

In only its second year, Forman Robotics has been named runner-up in a major competition. Matthew Madsen '17 and Captain Christopher Mann '17 of Advanced Robotics Team 1930B came in second out of 40 teams in the Starstruck VEX Robotics game in the CTEEA University of New Haven Robotics Competition.

Christin Bass has over a decade of experience as an educator, having taught Literacy, Language Arts, and Learning Strategies to students with learning differences. This year, she transitioned into the role of Institute Instructional Coach at Forman after six years as a teacher in the Institute for Cognition and Learning.

This spring marks the groundbreaking of a "Fab Lab," or Fabrication Laboratory, at Forman School. Construction is underway and cement is being poured for the base of this 3,600 square foot structure, which will act as an addition to the existing Olson Outdoor Education Center.

Scores of parents gathered at Forman School for a beautiful Spring Parents' Weekend on April 21-23, 2016. Campus was buzzing with excitement and happy faces, and the spring weather was in bloom, providing a perfect setting for a jam-packed weekend of exciting events.

Forman School participated in a robotics competition for the first time ever on Saturday, February 13 along with 30 other teams at the University of New Haven. In the School's first year with a Robotics Program, the Forman Lions took home the Sportsmanship Award from the CTEEA Regional Vex Qualifier. Robotics Coach Wendy Welshans and her team presented the award to Head of School Adam K. Man on Tuesday, February 15.

"They are so engaged. Many times I can't get them to leave for lunch." This probably doesn't sound like an ordinary day at school to you, but Wendy Welshans' new Robotics class at Forman School is anything but ordinary. "Our kids are project based," Welshans explains, citing the reason the program has taken off so quickly.
