Most students go home for the summer and spend their time hanging out with friends, vacationing, or working a local job. For Jake Melcher '17, it's a little bit different. This summer, Melcher was named the 2015-'16 Firefighter of the Year at the annual Vista Fire Department Annual Inspection Dinner. At the VFD, he is now the top responder and the youngest recipient to receive this distinction.

Forman School welcomed 210 students from 24 U.S. states and 15 countries for the 2016-'17 academic year. 75 new students arrived on campus Thursday, September 8 and returning students attended registration on Saturday, September 10.

As the 2016 Paralympic Games begin on September 7 in Rio de Janeiro, a member of the Forman School community will grace the waters of Brazil. Laura Goodkind '04 recently secured a place on the United States rowing team.

Forman School is pleased to welcome 10 new faculty members for the 2016-'17 academic year. This group of highly qualified and passionate educators began orientation on Monday, August 22.

Just in time for the new academic year, Town Vibe Magazine has made some recommendations for students who learn differently in their September/October 2016 issue. Article author Amy Oringel says, "When one size does not fit all, there are many school options." One such option, she notes, is Forman School.

The theme for our fourth and final week is "Plan for Yourself." As we wind up a fantastic July, students have been prompted to think about how they will use the skills they have learned when they transition into school in September.

"Advocate for Yourself" is the theme for week three of Forman Summer 2016. During morning meeting each day, students practiced mindfulness in the form of meditation, body scan, walking meditation, and mindful listening. As students become more aware of their strengths and more comfortable with themselves as learners, it is important for them to also be able and willing to speak on their own behalf.

Week two of Forman Summer 2016 has been action-packed. The theme this week is "Assist Yourself," so students have explored the different ways they can help themselves reach their goals and be successful in and out of school.

Forman Summer 2016 is off to a great start. The theme this week (July 5-10) is "Know Yourself," so students have been given opportunities in the academic classrooms to identify their strengths, challenges, goals, and passions.

The third year of Forman School's revamped Summer Program has begun! 48 students and their families from 11 states and 9 countries were given a warm welcome on Tuesday, July 5, for the four-week coed boarding and day program.

Forman School held a celebratory groundbreaking ceremony for a new Visual and Performing Arts Center on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 3:00-4:00pm on campus. Head of School Adam K. Man, along with Trustees Louise Hoppe Finnerty P'11, President of the Board, and Frederick M. Lione, Jr. P'91, Head of Buildings and Grounds all spoke at the event.

Congratulations to the Class of 2016! Our seniors continue Forman's tradition of 100% college placement, with over 200 college acceptances between the 66 students. We wish our new graduates the best, from their time now at colleges, universities, and gap year programs to what is ahead in their future endeavors.

Forman School graduated 66 students on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the School's annual Commencement Exercises. The Manchester Pipe Band led the traditional academic processional on the bagpipes. Faculty members followed and then new Forman graduates processed to their seats next to the historic Graduation Tree on The Green.

Three students from Forman School have been nominated for the 2016 Halo Awards! These are the "premium high school theatre awards in Connecticut presented by Seven Angels Theatre" says Thinking and Writing Chair and Forman Ensemble Players Director Lily Chen.

US Lacrosse has named Forman School's Jackson Parker '16 as a High School Academic All-American! He is the first ever Academic All-American for Lacrosse at Forman, and is followed by three US High School Lacrosse All-Americans at Forman in recent years: Patrick Charles '13, Connor Hall '15, and Thomas Nelson '16. Parker was also announced as the recipient of the Sportsmanship Award at Forman's Spring 2016 Athletic Awards.

The Spring 2016 Athletic Awards took place on Monday, May 23 at Forman School. Athletes and coaches enjoyed a delicious dinner banquet of salmon, tortellini, cheesecake, and more. The coaches then honored our outstanding athletes.

The Forman School Academic Awards for the 2015-'16 year took place on Friday, May 20 at 3:15pm. Teachers from each department presented the awards to students and congratulated them with hugs and handshakes.

This spring marks the groundbreaking of a "Fab Lab," or Fabrication Laboratory, at Forman School. Construction is underway and cement is being poured for the base of this 3,600 square foot structure, which will act as an addition to the existing Olson Outdoor Education Center.

They did it! Congratulations to the Forman Lions, who won all of their Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) quarterfinals yesterday. Six Forman School teams will continue to the semifinals of the league tournament.

The 2016-'17 Student Leaders have been announced! Dorm Prefect and Job Leader selections were announced on Wednesday, May 11 and the students happily gathered for a photo as they celebrated their new positions. School Officers including All School President, All School Vice President, Speaker of the Student Body, and New Student Ambassador will be announced at Assembly on Friday, May 13.

Visit Costa Rica: check. Encounter rare and endangered wildlife: check. Collect data for the scientific community: check. In just about two short months, the Forman School Rainforest Project has accomplished all of these and more. And on Dissertation Day, students from Forman, Wamogo Regional High School, presented their findings to the world.

Approximately 100 guests graced Forman School's campus on May 6-8 for Alumni Weekend! Several alumni arrived early on Friday and enjoyed watching the student Dissertation Day presentations for the Rainforest Project. In the evening, attendees gathered for a reception at the Head's House, followed by the "Golden Lions" 50th Reunion and Decade Dinner, which was hosted by Bart Curtis '66 at La Cupola in Litchfield.
