Seeking redemption from a loss to The Harvey School earlier in the season, the Forman Boys' Varsity Hockey Team came up with a big win Wednesday night at Harvey. Two weeks earlier, Harvey got the better of Forman 6-3, but Wednesday was a different story. Forman came out strong and the offense shined, scoring seven goals en route to a 7-4 win.

Once again, Forman has taken student learning beyond the classroom. A group from Forman School recently had a VIP experience at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. The event, which took place in Park City, Utah, was held January 21-31, 2016. Seniors Alexander Gruneich, Ethan Jadow, Hannah Drill, and Jacob Cloobeck attended for a long weekend on the tail end of the festival with Arts Teacher Sean Kelly.

Kyle Halloran '05 has been in the "Forman family" for his entire life. In addition to being an alumnus, his mother, Director of Counseling Charlene Halloran, has worked at the School for over 30 years. "I was born here, went to school here, I teach here, and I am now raising a family here," he says. "I've seen this School develop over the years and have been surrounded by Forman's educational process. There is nothing else like this School out there, and I feel very fortunate to be a part of this community."

Forman School will officially join a new football league in the fall. The Gunnery, Millbrook School, and Pomfret School will also be part of the league, which will be named next month. Games will include eight players on the field for each team as opposed to the current 11 players in the Hudson Valley Athletic League.

Forman School reflected on diversity this month. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 18, the Forman community gathered together and watched a short film on the protests in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963. After, the community divided into groups to discuss the impact of the events.

The Johnson Art Center was packed with visitors at the Forman School Winter Open House! Prospective families traveled to the event on Monday, January 18, from as far as Virginia and Brazil.

Tammy Diehl is in her 15th year at Forman School, and her passion for teaching has only grown over this time. "I love when students have that 'aha!' moment – when they truly understand what they are learning and then apply it successfully without thinking about," she says. Beyond just an excitement for her field, Diehl has a love for Forman.

It all started with a dream. Jake Alda Coffey '15 wanted to make a short film, and a month after graduating from Forman School, he was funded through Kickstarter and had the means to create it. This micro budget short film titled Table for Two about a fictitious dinner conversation between Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby the night before John F. Kennedy's assassination.

The Forman Ensemble Players performed their fall play, Let's Murder Marsha, to packed audiences on Thursday and Friday, November 12 and 13, in the Johnson Art Center.

History was made at the Forman School fields this weekend. After a hard fought match Saturday against South Kent School, the Boys' Varsity Soccer team has won the Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) Championship. "I'm in my 38th year here at Forman and we've been runners up numerous times, but this is the first time we have won the top championship game," Athletic Director Scott McCarty '76 said.

Five Forman School student-athletes were selected for the All-Star soccer matches on Sunday, November 15 at Loomis Chaffee School. Both the boys' and girls' teams were made up of a combination of schools that are part of NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) and more specifically, WNEPSSA Western New England Preparatory School Soccer Association.

The Rainforest Project is one of the hallmark programs at Forman School. Each year, before exploring and collecting research in the rainforest of Costa Rica as part of the Winterim Program, the group creates a short video written completely by the students.

On Monday November 9th, Forman School was pleased to present the Julie Forman IV boat to internationally renowned artist Seward Johnson '49 for his 85th birthday. A Forman alumnus and Trustee Emeritus, Johnson's daughter, India Blake '91, also graduated from the School.

Just in time for National Stress Awareness Day this week, Forman School's Psychologist, Dr. Barbara Tarkin, held a workshop Thursday, November 5th to discuss stress management tips. Students gathered after dinner and enjoyed snacks in a relaxing environment in these student lounge to answer the questions: what is stress, why do we feel it, and what can we do about it?

Lily Chen began teaching at Forman School in 2010, but her journey in the creative fields started long before then. Now the Chair of the Thinking and Writing Department at Forman, Chen has 20 years of experience in private schools. She also has a culturally diverse background, having been born in Taiwan, educated by primarily British teachers, and ultimately marrying a Jewish American.

The Girls' Varsity Soccer team at Forman School is on a roll, and they are not looking to stop anytime soon. The team, which is coached by Kyle Halloran '05 and Tammy Diehl, has won the last five consecutive matches.

Fall Parents' Weekend at Forman School came to a close Saturday, October 24th after days of fun activities, parent-teacher meetings, and inspirational education sessions. Campus was buzzing with excitement and happy faces, and the fall foliage set a colorful backdrop to the events.

Forman School kicked off Fall Parents' Weekend with an excellent seminar for new Forman parents from internationally recognized LD expert Rick Lavoie. Lavoie is an author, educator, and consultant who has been working with Forman School for almost 30 years.

"They are so engaged. Many times I can't get them to leave for lunch." This probably doesn't sound like an ordinary day at school to you, but Wendy Welshans' new Robotics class at Forman School is anything but ordinary. "Our kids are project based," Welshans explains, citing the reason the program has taken off so quickly.

Alumni, past and current parents, students, faculty, and friends came together on Saturday, October 10th to honor Nigel Daniel and his retirement from coaching after 28 years. Our guests traveled from as far as the Dominican Republic to be here to share in the momentous occasion.

Bringing 43 years of teaching experience with him, William (Bill) Conklin began at Forman School this fall. "What makes teaching exciting for me is opening up students' understanding of the world around them. It's making the ordinary special, and the special understandable," the former Litchfield High School teacher says.

Community involvement is as vibrant as ever at Forman School. Over 40 Forman students participated in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, October 4th.
