Forman students have many opportunities to develop their talents, perform publicly in our community, and even view professional performances in Connecticut and New York City.
Performing arts options include rock, jazz and vocal ensembles, dance, acting, improvisation, public speaking, and technical theater.
Students work closely with teachers who are working musicians and actors themselves. Studio, class, and rehearsal spaces are inspiring workshops that invite dynamic inquiry, experimentation, and exploration in a safe environment.
Training in the performing arts culminates in public performances where students display the application of newly-discovered talents and learned technique.
The music program offers classes in instrumental and vocal music, theory, and composition, and includes the opportunity to take private lessons for an additional fee. Students have access to digital technology for editing and composition, and participate in the Rock, Blues, Jazz, and Vocal Ensembles for on and off campus performances.
The dance program makes use of the Risley Gallery in the winter athletic season and meets after classes during the sports block six days a week. The Gallery is outfitted with mirrors and a sound system. The class culminates in a public recital of modern and contemporary choreography in the Johnson Art Center (JAC).
The theater program offers classes in improvisation, public speaking, and technical theater. Auditions for co-curricular productions are open to all students regardless of which arts classes they take and rehearsals meet during the sports block. Forman holds three full scale productions per academic year: two in classical theater-style (one comedy and one drama) and one musical.
