On Wednesday and Saturday, breakfast opens at 8:30 a.m. and classes end by lunch with afternoons dedicated to atheltic competition between Forman and other schools. The Saturday academic schedule also contains an extra help block, where students can schedule time to meet with teachers for some added support.
Athletics at Forman are an important part of each student's day. We have varsity and JV teams in most sports and we are very competitive in the Western New England Prepartory School Athletic Association, the Housatonic Valley Athletic League, and the Hudson Valley Athletic League. Students may also choose from recreational sports activities such as rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, white-water rafting and kayaking, or choose to work out in our fitness room. Learn more about our athletic program here.
All students are engaged in Study Hall from 8:00-9:30 p.m. Sunday through Friday. Students are expected to make good use of evening study time and are typically assigned to the dormitory, the library, or to an instructional study hall. Faculty members are available in each dorm to supervise and give academic help.
The week includes time for two all-school assemblies as well as meetings with advisors, classes, and clubs. Assemblies are held on Monday and Friday, and provide an opportunity for the head of school and faculty to share information with the community. In addition, student leaders run one of the assemblies each week and at nearly every assembly, students from across the School will often share their writings, music, and artwork.
After dinner, students socialize and relax until study hall begins at 8:00 p.m. The library and computer labs are also open in the evening as well.
From 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. each night, students are free to relax and order food from the school snack bar, the Lion's Den Bistro. The Student Center has a large screen TV as well as various game tables. All students are to report to their dorms by 8:00 p.m. as Study Hall runs from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m. Additionally, seniors may stay outside until 9:55 p.m. Underclassmen have lights out at 10:00 p.m. and seniors have lights out at 11:00 p.m. Each Common room is equipped with a large screen TV and microwaves. Individual dorms meet weekly for residential curriculum activities including adventure education opportunities, guest speakers, games, and contests.
Day students are fully integrated into campus life and enjoy our picturesque grounds and extensive facilities. Lockers are available for their books and belongings, and they are welcome to stay for dinner if they remain on campus for an evening activity.
Wednesdays and Saturdays
Wednesdays and Saturdays are half-days, with Saturday comprising the second half of Wednesday in terms of the academic schedule. Students meet with their advisors on Wednesday mornings and athletic competitions are held in the afternoon on both days. Students also have permission to sign-out with their houseparents and walk into Litchfield's quaint and historic town center in the afternoons, after fulfilling all of their school-related obligations. Unique shops, bakeries, and restaurants abound as well as more familiar destinations such as CVS, Rite Aid, Dunkin' Donuts, and Stop & Shop.
Weekends at Forman provide a variety of on and off-campus activities and events for everyone to enjoy. Students can always find a pick up game of frisbee, cheer on their favorite athletic team, or walk to town for a snack. Transportation is always available for religious services.
The School also offers a selection of great off-campus activities each weekend that students can sign-up for.
On campus activities include everything from activities in the gym, games on the Green, dances, open mic nights, and movies. Bonfires and s'mores are always popular and cheering on Forman teams as they compete on Saturday's is also a great way to build school spirit and friendships.
