College Selection, Application, and Admissions Timeline

Senior year is both exciting and full of dates to remember! As you prepare for the next step of your education, we’ve provided a list of tips and deadlines to help students make the most out of senior year and prepare for college.

Senior Year


  • Common Application (online) becomes available August 1st
  • College Counseling Office is available to work with students and parents on the college process
  • Continue to visit colleges
  • Students are encouraged continue their college research, essay and start applications


  • ACT
  • College Fair at Litchfield High School
  • Students meet individually and regularly with counselors
  • Students/parents continue to schedule visits and interviews
  • College admissions representatives visit Forman
  • Students begin completing applications (Common Application) and supplements
  • College Counseling Office receives teacher letters of recommendation


  • SAT & ACT
  • College admissions representatives continue to visit Forman
  • Students and parents continue to schedule college visits and interviews
  • Parents' Weekend - College Counseling Office Presentation
  • Early Decision & Early Action deadlines (some) are approaching


  • SAT
  • College admissions representatives continue to visit Forman
  • Start to finalize and submit applications (Common Application) and required supplements to meet early action/early decision deadlines
  • College Counseling Office submits application materials upon request. Students should notify Mrs. Murphy and their counselor two weeks prior to submission request/deadline.
    • Thanksgiving Break – Students and parents (re)visit colleges.


  • Complete any remaining applications
  • Relax and enjoy time with family and friends!


  • College Counseling Office submits Mid-Year Reports to colleges
  • Parents submit FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • Check application status (Naviance/Common Application)


  • Students review and evaluate admissions decisions and financial aid awards
  • Update the College Counseling Office of any admission decision


  • Students continue to evaluate letters of acceptance and financial aid awards
  • Visit, Re-Visit, and Attend College Open House Weekends & Events


  • Parents' Weekend


  • May 1 – National Deposit Deadline
  • Share final decisions with College Counseling Office
  • College Counseling Office submits end of year reports and transcripts to schools for students placed on the waitlist
  • Students notify college of choice and submit admissions forms
  • College Counseling Office records and reports college choices
