2025 Summer Program Counselor Q&A: Jorie Welshans ’24

July 30, 2025

Each summer, Forman School alumni return to campus as Summer Program Counselors, eager to give back to the community that supported them. We caught up with our 2025 alumni counselors to hear about their experiences of seeing Forman from a new perspective and where they are today.

Jorie Welshans ’24 was one of several alumni who returned to work with students this summer, hoping to give them the same positive experience she had as a Summer Program student.

What made you decide to be a Summer Program Counselor?

I wanted to come back to the beautiful Forman community, as well be a mentor to prospective Forman students.

What has been the most rewarding part of this experience?

The most rewarding part of this experience has been getting to try new opportunities that I didn’t try when I was a student at Forman.

What skills have you developed or improved through this experience?

I have definitely seen an impact on my communication skills. Working with different age groups has taught me how to help students of different ages.

Did you attend the Summer Program as a student? If so, did that experience impact your role as a counselor?

I did attend as a rising seventh grader. It helped me see myself in the campers by knowing exactly how I felt when I first got here.

As a student at Champlain College, Jorie is majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice with plans to pursue a career in law enforcement.
