Forman School’s 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge

February 3, 2023

Forman launched its 21-Day Racial Equity Challenge in recognition of Black History Month this week. Over the next three weeks, students will complete activities focused on themes of identity, diversity, and dialogue. On day one, we asked students to reflect on who they are and what they identify with. They were also tasked with creating a bio poem to help answer those questions and be creative in doing so.

Throughout the challenge, we encourage students to reflect on the media presented and their own experiences.

“Plan to take time every day to reflect on the task for the day, what you’re learning, and how you feel,” the challenge reads. “Though difficult, emotions such as shame and anger can guide you to deeper self-awareness about how power and privilege impact you and the people in your life. Reflection is not supposed to tear one down or excuse one's past mistakes, but rather create an opportunity for growth and a chance to do better in the future.”

The challenge concludes with an activity to help students maintain momentum beyond this month. They will watch a TED Talk featuring WNBA champion Renee Montgomery on turning important moments into meaningful momentum, which you can find here
